You've Got A Friend In Me

Hey there everyone! My name's Andrew Cook, and welcome to "Andy's Room," my brand new blog page. I've been blogging for a few years now, but this is the first time I've branched out on my own, so it's a bit of a brave new world for me here, and I'm finding it hard to think of a good place to start. Some general facts about me, then, and a sales pitch for the kind of content you'll be reading about on this page in the future:

  • I was born and raised in Lowell, MA, "The Mill City," where I live with my dad Patrick, mom Jackie, sister Heather, and dog Brady. Most of you reading this are also probably familiar with my dad's "A Wicked Good Blog", which is what got me into the blogging scene in the first place -- if this blog achieves half the success of those excellent entries, I'll consider it a resounding success.
  • I'm a (very) recent graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, with a degree in English with a creative writing concentration. My college experience was unbelievable, and I doubt you'll find a prouder, more card-carrying member of 'Sader Nation out there. That previous blog experience I mentioned before came from maintaining one of the school's student blogs, and I had a lot of fun doing it. This new page will effectively be a continuation of those posts, documenting all the cool happenings in my post-grad world.
  • I'm an AVID runner! After running cross-country in high school (and a bit in college), I lace 'em up just about every day... I'm one of those very strange people who take serious enjoyment from getting a good sweat on. I've done three Boston Marathons, and expect to do a lot more in the future. Definitely expect to see a lot of exercise content on here, from races to cool courses and beyond!
  • If you can't tell from the format here, I'm a Disney nut: the first movie I ever saw in theaters was Toy Story - I was so small at the time, my mom and aunt had to sit on either side of me and hold down the folding chair, for fear of losing me into the upholstery - and since I shared a name with the movie's main human character, it always kinda stuck. The Cooks spent many a vacation growing up in Disney, so yeah... I'm pretty much institutionalized.
  •  You'll be hard-pressed to find a bigger pop culture enthusiast; I've been a comic book fan from the time I was in utero (and I do mean that literally, thanks dad), my favorite movies of all time are Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films, Game of Thrones is the best show on TV right now, and I've read just about every Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot mystery put to paper. Accidentally mention one of these topics in conversation, and say good-bye to your next several hours.
I think I should stop here for the first posting - there'll be a lot to cover going forward, and I plan to be here for the long run! These are just some of the basics, though, to help you get a sense of who the intrepid individual is here writing about all these crazy things. I really look forward to what life's got in store, and sharing it here with you all. Till next time!!
